My Ride: BMW E60. 520D Sept 2005. in the best colour (black)18 Inch wheels
Hi, Ive just bought a 55plate E60 520D SE but dissappointed to find it has no AUX socket (for my Ipod) and the CD player doesnt play MP3's. I got a price from local dealer for ?489 + VAT to retrofit AUX socket in glove box and update software This seems very expensive to me and not worth the money. I then thought I could buy a cd changer off ebay and get my dealer to fit it and update it to play mp3 cd's.but they will only fit and sell there own supplied products. I seem to be stuck with an FM Transmitter which is a bit poor, or spending ?500 plus just to play MP3's.. Any one any advice on alternative solutions ?
Thanks
Thanks

My car has an aux socket in the centre rear console near the two 12v power supplies, Its not ideal but It works for me as I only use the ipod on long journeys. Apart from that I use a cd filled with mp3s in the dash cd player. If this doesnt work on yours I believe the dealer can activate the drive to read mp3s with an update.

welcome to the club no standard mp3 playback in a expensive car whilst opels/vauxhall from the same year had it standard.
i think a reasonable solution is installing a extra radio with hdd i saw here in sweden a offer for 270 euro. thenu have the problem how to connect it to the cars speaker. well i read somewhere that if u press mute the speakers are ready to be used for an external device. did read it somewhere on this forum. maybe if u go to a professioanl car audio shop they can help u out.
but indeed it sucks anyway newer models do have the usb and all option.
good luck

Before laying out 500 of our Great British, take a look at the followong thread:

Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will get to taking my car apart and giving this a go - not that I have even got an mp3 player!! I just want the option to use it if I want to - although I am thinking of putting in a DAB Radio adaptor, so I will use this for the input, rather than an FM transmitter.

Also, it may be worth calling another dealer, as I think that most post 2005 cars had CD drives that were mp3 capable, although early ones did need coding by the dealer to enable them. this only works on the in-dash drive - the changer isn't mp3 friendly.
