I have my 2008 535i back now and I would like to use the AUX input for saved music. I do not have the USB port in the center console and I also do not have an IPod or similar device. Is it possible to use an AUX cord (possibly with USB connector) to attach memory stick with saved music and not use an IPod?
Thanks in advance.

The AUX cord will plug into any standard output jack, such as the earphone output on the iPod or any MP3 player. You can buy any MP3 player but if you don't even want to do that, I'm not sure if there is a cable made that converts the output of a USB to the AUX jack. In fact, I'm pretty sure it won't work as that cable is only capable of carrying sound out put and not the song data etc to the iDrive. Basically, with the AUX input you need the device to control the song selection etc. If you want that functionality without the factory iPod option, you'll have to get the iPod adapter that replaces the 6-disc changer in the glove box. I think there are some after market options as well, but others will have to chime in on those...

The AUX input is analog. Your stored music is digital. A digital to analog electronic converting device such as an iPod is needed to connect to the AUX.

Yupp! Your option for fully functional (like oem) & i-drive compatible is the Dension Gateway 500. It's an aftermarket product, but works like oem...you'll be able to plug in usb devices and your iPod without sacrificing your CDC...
