The dealer. Programming is required to get the AUX input in iDrive. Adding an aux port is around $350 or so. Adding the iPod interface is around $800.

x2... I went through the dealer after checking with multiple independent audio installers... no one could do it due to the "fiber optic" system... I would assume the '05 545 is the same as the '04... I have the aux input - no ipod interface.

Is not that Aux port already in glove compartment? I read in other thread that it is already installed in glove compartment. To access it you have to remove a glove compartment. What I'll do today to fined out if it is there or not but I do not know about programming to get it on idrive. Will dealer charge less just to program it after you have Aux port?

Not on an '05.... The cd changer is there. You have to order the aux parts from the Parts Department and schedule the install or install it yourself and have the dealer program it...

I called momentum BMW in Katy and Houston, both told me that my 05 545 cannot be fitted with an aux input, only with the full iPod interface. How accurate is this?

Not sure if there's any difference year-wise but my dealer quoted me $600 to add the whole center arm rest iPod interface on my '08.

Incorrect... it can be installed and retrofitted... I have an '04 545 which uses the same fiber optic system.
