I haven't had the opportunity to do more than 140 MPH. But I do know that it doesn't tkae long to get to 140, and there's plenty more "in store".

I don't go over 100 MPH in the UK, so it's a matter of waiting until I get to drive to Germany again.

The E60 is fantastic at 120. Seems to be made to go at that speed all day. In fact, anything less just feels too slow.

I drove several times to the speed limitor (265 km/h on the speedo), but that's not what I prefer. High speeds in straights is not so exciting (Excepted the time I hit the speed limiter on the rain : the steering wheel was soooo light ... ).

I prefer to take long curves as fast as the car can do it ! :wow:

By the way, there is 1 thing I don't trust 100% in my E60 : the brakes. Power is not really sufficient & endurance is poor.

PS : my personal speed record on open road = 340 KM/H (Porsche 996 BiTurbo 550HP). And you know what ? I was more impressed by the power of the brakes than by the power of the engine ! o:)

145mph on A61 in Germany.

My 535d has very powerful brakes. The difference between them and the standard ones installed on the 530d/530i cannot be more striking. And very large tyres help, too.

Second that!
Responding to both Lucky and OliverB: in fact i said many times, too my friends or auto enthusiasts that i love more the braking power than the accelerating power. Never once reached the brake fade level, but in a way never driven it that hard for that long. I agree with OliverB and i gotta tell you man, you are my kind of guy (don't get me wrong :D ) i also like more the twisties, and playing with weight ballance, fighting understeer, oversteer and so on...IMO that's the true joy in driving. Yes there are better suited cars out there. I anticipated some people's replys but hell the E60 is the best sedan out there (imo) in it's class and outhandles alot more cars with bigger egos. But never had braking problems. Only once i relieved too much on the brakes and from almost 200km/h i missed the redlight (at night, no danger, almost no traffic) and passed the light 2 meters or so but that was my mistake, the brakes did very well, i missed a bit the braking point. Also i like that i can lock somtimes a front wheel or even both (with abs kicking in) and it looks quite spectacular, with short bursts of tire smoke.

I regularly used to hit 250km/h on a downhill stretch on the A3 autobahn between Frankfurt and Cologne (K?ln) with my 18" M135s. With the 19" M166 rims I can now "only" get the needle to scrape 240-245km/h.

On the flat, the needle shows 230 or more depending how much time I have to build up the speed. This pretty much reflects the officially BMW quoted top speed of 225.

Regarding this i was wondering how much a 20" rim would affert the speedo and top speed readings...
