Hey all,

Is it possible to leave the auto wipers on all the time as at the moment I have to turn it on everytime I start the car. Seems strange this cannot be set like the auto headlights can be. Cheers lads

The is no permanent setting on my 2006 530xi. I think the reason they make it that way is so that you don't mess up the wipers if they get frozen to the windshield or there is so much snow on the window they can't move. I saw this happen on my daughter's Mazda, which does have the ability to leave them on permanently. It snowed big time once and she didn't clear the window and started the car and the wipers were stuck. They didn't get damaged, but we cleared the window immediately.

Definitely.

Ive had my girlfriend's wiper motors burn-out on two occasions (Honda Accord 06) because they were frozen in-place, and she decided to activate them anyway. This, of course, came after I stressed the importance of getting all the ice and snow cleared before leaving the apartment. And yes, it was very satisfying knowing I was right...

I'd imagine something as simple as holding down the lock button on your key (to automatically roll-down all windows) could also prove costly, given all that output force of the window motors & the right amount of ice accumulation keeping them frozen in place..
