Thumbs down

Many have asked me whether BMW is coming out with a RTTI retrofit for cars produced prior to GA of RTTI.

When I spoke with the product manager months and months ago, I was told they would have a decision in the summer.

Today, I received that decision and it is negative on the retrofit.

Thanks for the info Jonathan.

I'm not surprised that there isn't a retrofit since it's very likely that there's more than just software, etc. involved in the retrofit. It sounds like whatever hardware changes they need probably don't support the wiring and/or other components...

Actually, one of the issues is licensing the RTTI service. BMW pays a license fee for each user ex works but there is no mechanism to pay a license fee for someone who gets a retrofit.

Cool, I didn't realize that was an issue. Makes sense, I guess...

One of several, I?m sure. Technically (with a lot of work) it is feasible but that doesn?t make it doable.
