August sales of the 5 Series were up an encouraging 16.4% over last August with sales of 5,173 units this month and 4,445 sold last August. However, YTD sales for the first 8 months of 2007 were down 5.4% when compared to the same 8 months of 2006.

By comparison, August sales of the Mercedes-Benz E Class totaled only 3,718 units, down 6.0% from the 3,955 the previous August. Sales of the MB E Class were ?flat? for the first 8 months of 2007 as the year to year increase was a mere 37 units.

Please note that I report only United States sales data.

Anybody surprised that the 2008 528i is outselling the 535i? The reverse is true for the xi models. With all of the discussion I follow here and on bimmerfest, you would think that the 535i is outselling the 528 10:1!

We are BMW Enthusiasts here that value hp and performance. The most economical 5 er, the 528, will always sell the best. Just look at the sales volume of the 3 er compared to the 5 er. It is a matter of economics.

I did my part to boost those August numbers with the August 2 Euro Delivery of my 550 Sport.

What are the launch to current period sales of the e60 vs the e39 ? My sense is that the e39 was a slightly more successful model ???

Cheers

Fred's reports go back to 2003. Just flip the .pdf page and you should be able to find some E39 data for comparison...

Actually my reports go back to August, 2000. Look at the August, 2003 report and you will see that it reports sales for August, 2000 thru August, 2003. That should be a sufficient number of sales reports for almost anyone. Note that the E39 was introduced in the U.S. in April, 1996 so only BMW NA has all the numbers you want.
