Auburn Dakota Leather - Rare Interior Color?
#1
Hey everyone,
I am wondering if the Auburn Dakota Leather is a rare interior color for the E60? I was reading this site and it says that option code 438 is standard trim on MY2005+ 525, 530 and all 545 models, yet I have a 2004 525i w/ a build date of 06/04. Any clue how this is possible?
Thanks...
P.S. - The picture is from this site, but my car is identical (minus the SMG trans)...

Hi there. I think the answer to your question may depend on the markets we are talking about. I spent the last 4 months or so searching BMW dealers here in the Netherlands for 530d's that were no more than 18 months old, and easily 75% of the cars that I saw had the Auburn Dakota Leather. It would not be my first choice, but it does seem to be popular in the Netherlands, and I have now ended up with a 2006 530d, sapphire black, with the auburn seats.
No pics yet, as I only take delivery of the thing next week.

Before settling on buying a new car (more fun but less financial sane) I checked many E61:s in Germany. Very few had Auburn and those that had were mostly 545:s, for some reason. In Germany the 530d and 535d are more popular and they were almost always Carbon Black with black leather.
Hee in Sweden, ligther colours are trendy; so creme is very popular.

In the U.S., Auburn is relatively rare.
However, I think that has a lot to do with dealers not ordering it for cars on their lot (mine even discouraged getting it special order). Without seeing it in person, most buyers will not risk ordering it.
