Hi Guys,

I'm just throwing this idea out there. I'm expecting to get 200,000km out of my car (Dinan claim they reduce the life expetancy of an engine by ~10% with their tune), but I have began to wonder about a 3.0L TT Diesel swap. Has anyone tried swapping the engines? does anyone have any clue how much work is involved? I'm thinking its mostly PnP for computers, modules, etc. The only thing that differs is Diesel Fuel Pump and DPF right? or is there more to it than I'm thinking.

Basically the car is a great platform (awd, 6spd), I was thinking to convert to diesel and enjoy the fuel savings? What are you thoughts about this?

Just stick with the gasoline. I can't give you an exact number, but I can guarantee that an engine swap will cost A LOT more than you would save on gas...

Why would you do that. Petrol is way nicer than diesel and the real world savings are only marginal.

You'll need to put in a urea tank and injector as well.

Let's not forget that this will destroy the warranty on your drive train.....I'm sorry but I fail to see the savings in that....

You won't have much savings by the time you get stiffer front shocks/struts and adapt the drive lines... Waste of time.

my 09 E320 bluetec doesnt use urea but all other MB 09s use urea.
the north america 335d & x5d both use urea injection. from the info i gathered tuning diesels with urea injection is impossible right now

I've read tons of articles on why diesel is better but it still isn't compelling enough. I guess my parents pay for my gas but they don't complain about the prices to fill up the LS 430 and GX 470. I guess I'm just fortunate.

People on this forum also said performance-wise, a 535d was more desirable than an i. Why the obsession over torque when the car is still slower?
