Been noticing a problem though very rare. There are times when I am driving the, the car will pop out of gear. Noticed this in 1st and 2nd gear. Anybody have this problem or have an idea what causes this? Thanks

No no popping out for me. But the transmission does bank against its housing when I turn off the car. They all (BMW Munich, BMW Rome and Bob Smith BMW Calabasas, CA) say thats normal.

My 911 that popped out of gear and that spelled big problems. Most likely your synchronization cones or gears themselves are gone. This could also be a clutch problem but transmission is much more likely culpirate.

I had an e39 which used to pop out of gear.... it took me several trips to the shop to get them to replicate problem, eventually hijacked tester locked the doors and drove until it poped out of gear.... as soon as the dealer witnessed the problem they were happy to fit new gearbox and recommended this route rather than have them take it apart and end up with risk on oil drips etc etc
