An attempt to fix the eyebrow problem
1 Attachment(s)
So I've had a problem on the left eyebrow: only 2 of 6 LEDs have been working.
Sometimes all of them have lightened up, but for weeks it's been only these two. It's not only that, those 2 LEDs have been very dim also. So I thought I have to do the eyebrow mod and replace the LEDs. However, I wanted to try something before that, because I really didn't want to do the mod. The fixing process is still going on, and I'm not sure if it helps but we'll see... This is what I've done so far: 1) Sprayed some Würth contact/anti-moisture agent into the eyebrow through the power connector 2) Removed the headlight 3) Rolled the headlight all over to get the liquid everywhere 4) Rolled the headlight again to drain the excess liquid out (through the power connector) 5) Attached the eyebrow power connector to an external adjustable power source 6) Then I gave the LEDs the "requested" 12V. Only those two lightened up again. 7) Raised the output up to 20V and all the LEDs lightened up --> lowered the volts down to 12V --> all LEDs still working 8) Now I've been giving that 12V to the eyebrow LEDs for 3 hours and now all of them lighten up when I disconnect and reconnect the power at 12V . I think there have been some moisture on components and now they have dried while all the LEDs have been working. I'll be on duty this week and I'll reinstall the headlight on next weekend and then we'll see if they still work in the car. I hope so. Attachment 106496 - Antti - |

Leave it to you to figure out a fix.

Top notch repair dude, need to get my hands dirty with my e60 at some point, just too scared to break summat!

Do you think the 20v woke up the sleeping LEDs .. .. or the circuits were cleaned up by the contact cleaner? Either way, you're back to 100% ... a fix worth noting (or Wurth noting!)

Ok, back at home and installed the headlight back to car.
Works fine, for now at least. I also changed my cheap 3W angel eye LEDs to another cheap 5W LEDs . Not much brighter, but worth the money I think. - Antti - |
Hello! I got the same problem on my e61 525d 2004..
One side i only get two and not so bright led's, and it looks horrible in nights.. Sometimes all working perfectly, but very rare. Your problem was in eyebrow connector? |
