Ascertain software version

Model Year: 2011
Tom, my car was a January 2004 build (US spec) and the original software version was 11.x. If you have not had an update since you took delivery, I would suspect your version is probably in that 11.x range. Don't know if the UK vs. US spec will make a big difference in the software version. The only way to tell for sure which version it is through dealer/service dept.

Are there 6 (or more) s/w versions?!? i.e. 11.x, 12.x, 13.x, 14.x, 15.x, 16.2 ?

There are quite a few interations of the software (called CIP) that have come out. Sometimes you may read that version 16.0 has nothing for the E60, but it will updates for the 6 series or the 7 series. 16.2 has changes for the 5 series. There have been a lot of these updates put out, couldn't begin to tell you the number.
