I know there are multiple threads of power loss or voltage surge causing the radio to cut out. I think I am having a different although possibly related problem. I have 4000 miles on my 550i. It has L7, Nav, pretty much everything. Just last night it began to have an irregular cycling of losing signal then "aquiring" then came back on. It was not related to shifting with SMG, it was not dependant on A/C on or off (tried both). I did not shift to FM or CD to see if that was the issue. Interestingly enough, I parked the car with SAT, when I came back 12 hrs later it was on CD. I can't explain that at all. I didn't do it. I guess if it keeps on I will notify dealership. I think it seems different to the other problem also in the fact that now it is hot (85 degrees F) where everyone else has noted cold weather. Now granted, if it is a surge problem A/C could be the culprit, but it did the same whether A/C was on or off. Anyway....advice appreciated.

It does sound like you're having a different problem than those of us complaining about audio dropouts with SMG shifting.

I'm thinking that something's wrong with either your Sirius module or your antenna connection.

Either way, it looks like you might have to get it checked out.

Good luck!

Were you in a normally good reception area or were u in a new location for u? I have a certain stretch of road with lots of old oaks heavily ladened with Spanish Moss and I get that symptom. Once I knew what to expect it no longer bothered me.

If this persists then obviously as Rudy stated. If a one time thing it could have been satellite switching as SIRIUS uses three sats in elllipitical orbits (figure 8 for use on ground). Also if one time, could have been transponder switching by SIRIUS ground controllers.

I figure its nothing to worry about as it took 4000 miles to show. I will drive the car tomorrow and see what it does. I can always blame it on sunspots
