The v60GSM handset is orderable for the CPT9000 as a BMW part (sorry I don't have access to the Mot/BMW site right now)...
I do know of people who have gotten it to work on non-nav. I have only heard of one unconfirmed report of it working on a nav car in the US.

I bought a v60 GSM off EBay a week or so ago and installed the eject box and frame on Friday (pics and a write-up to follow tomorrow) and will have the dealer recode the system to allow the car recognize the phone.
There is no literature anywhere that would indicate that GSM v60's are "verboten," or that the CPT9000/v60 phone system is incompatible with E60s that have NAV.
I think that peoples' experiences are so varied and inconsistent is due to the lack of expertise among BMW Center service technicians.
Hopefully my center here in Atlanta has some folks that are knowledgable about the CPT9000 and the E60.
