I thought I was the only one considering an X5 after my lease is up lol. I have driven a 2012 X5, and this has to be the best test drive I've ever been on (me driving of course!)
This was on a 2012 xDrive35i Premium unit and the sales guy had told me (after he guided me to an empty back road) to floor the car to 110mph, but he wanted me to inform him once I got to 100. In a blink of an eye, I was like "Sure no problem!". So I floored the X5 (brand spankin new, only 25 miles on the ODO when we left the dealership) and once I hit 100 I noticed a tumbleweed rolling along the shoulder. Im thinking to myself, I hope that doesn't cross the road otherwise there's gonna be damage on this brand new X5. Surely enough it did get on my lane (the road was just a single lane back road) and there were oncoming cars on the other lane. So I waited for the oncoming cars to pass (I slowed to 85) and did a quick maneuver to dodge the tumbleweed. The vehicle felt really stable as if I was driving my E60. At first I didn't think the SUV (SAV is what they refer it to) could handle that well on curves due to physics and higher center of gravity but the sales guy proved me wrong. Once I was approaching a curve he told me to slow down to 85. WAIT WHAT?! 85mph on a curve in this? Yes sir. I approached it at 85 (almost cracking some sweat thinking I might roll the thing).. Then lastly, on the next street he told me to make the right turn at 40mph. I'm thinking, really? 40mph right turn?? Well it handled really well and really gripped fine without any sensation of rolling the car over..
That test drive convinced me. But I'm also debating on a 2012 740i too so we'll see what's gonna happen
