that is weird, at 3500 to 4k is where the power is... my car hesitates just a bit in D..meaning sometimes instead of dropping to 2nd it drops to rd.. but in DS..man the car flies in any flooring...ask the dealer to check it out and to upgrade your software..since your car is throtlew by wire..

Pop it in third and floor it at that RPM. It should scream to red line. My 545 will.

Something is awfully wrong with your car dude... I'm in my break-in and the 550i is clearly better than my old 545i (6 speed as well...) and while cruising at above 2800 RPM my car will never hesitate in ANY gear. not even in 5th or 6th.

If the car is below 2500 RPM - some hesitation can happen and it's totally acceptable.

It started to happen at around 2500 miles and still going on 3700 miles. The first 2500 miles the car was perfect....

I have a 6 cylinder and don't notice any hesitation whatsoever.

Ditto!!. I have a 6 speed with 5000 mi, and the car responds sweetly. Infact, I am always amazed how quick the response is in any gear. Hopefully, you were careful to follow break-in guidelines for the car because I have heard of similar issues if one has not. ( Not sure how connected they are though.). I hope they resolve your problem. I would be interested in knowing the cause.

My car also likes the higher end of the rev meter. If I'm cruising at 65mph in 6th and floor it, it does takes a while to gain any momentum but if I click down 2 gears to 4th and floor it....HANG ON!!!!! 100mph is here in a blink. I think any manual is going to be like that unless your running low rear end gears.

My 6-speed manual does not have this problem. In fact, I'm amazed at how much low RPM power the engine has. I get up to 5th or 6th gear and rarely have to downshift - quick, smooth power when needed.

Of course if you need max power, you'll have to downshift and find the right gear - maybe that's your problem. You autobox drivers shouldn't have this issue though-sound like a software issue with the Step.

After reading all this, I went out and really gave my 550 a good run...

I must say the power delivery was good at 2nd, 3rd, and 4th from 3200K - 4500K

I didn't try 5th and 6th because that would but me into 100+ and the cops around here are
all over.

Before the 550 i was in a 6sd Audi S4 and the response in the 550 (smg) is just as
neck whipping imho.

Perhaps there is something the matter with your 550. Please do let us know when you find more.

Must admit that I have not found this to be true on my car. I'm not sure what CIP version I have, but I know that I declined to have it updated in fear of finding a problem. I have one of the first generations of the v8 e60, so who knows. Anyone with the earlier cars like myself not experiencing similar problems?
