My Ride: I GOT A 2007 TITANIUM GRAY/AUBURN LEATHER 545I 6SPD MANUAL. COLD WEATHER PACKAE, PREMIUM, PREMIUM SOUND LOGIC 7, SPORT.
Default

When cruising in 4th, 5th, 6th geares, and all of the sudden just punching the car, my car does pratically nothing for many seconds and then all of the sudden it kicks inn. It feels like a 6 cyl. I don't have any lights that are on, nor any faults. I had that same problem with my 545i. It should definitely not happen with a 4.8litre V8. I think the valvetronick and the open differential plays the bugest roll in this. Anyonelse experiencing these problems. I am really to get rid of that Damn car. Also, if i am in gear, and need to get out there quick i CAN'T. The car won't go for a few seconds.
What do i do folks?
Bringing it to BMW they won't find anything because ther are no faults nor any lights that are flashing.

That happens to my E60, too, after upgrading to CIP 13.x. BMW release an TSB for the fixed for it. After CIP update, it's fine, but still crappy though. I test drove 550 on the lot a few months back and it has exact problem as you describe while driving at 35-45mph or so. The problem is the transmission upshift to early. While driving at 45mph, you're already in 6th gear. What the hell BMW is thinking? So, when you press the pedal harder, it'll downshift to 4th which gives you a stupid surprise. Most of 5spd or 6spd autobox pretty much has it's own problem. Based on my experience, 4-spd transmission never has this problem.

i got the stick shift. It happens while in gear. lets say i am at 3,4000 RPM's just cruising. and then i hit the gas, but the car feels like there is no power at all. After a few seconds it sort of hits. Sometimes, it just goes up all the way to the red line feeling i got 4 or 6 cyl under the hood.
I am soooo pi*@#d.

Oops, I did not look at your signature. If the 6-spd acts like that, it's a totall piss. This is totally UNACCEPTABLE, BMW. Fix the damn basic function.

Are you basically saying it takes too long for it to downshift? Or are you saying it takes too long for it to respond in 6th gear? Theres some pull but not much in 6th. I would slap it over to DS mode and gas it at the same time it should downshift.

As for me I dont have any response problems. Push the paddle twice or push the lever twice, Nice rev match sound and i'm in 4th... WOLF and there I go.

Oh sorry. missed that. I saw your post about "if your 6 speed acted like that you would be pissed" but I thought somewhere you were just talking about manual now.

Cruising speed is anywhere around 3500-4000 RPM's.

I have driven high-perf Fives for 20 years, and each succeeding model has gotten softer and less responsive. This engine demands downshifting and high revving. It loves to rev, as opposed to down-low grunt that the big engine Fives always had. But, there is even a dramatic difference between this car and my E39 540 6spd (really same engine). With that, you could lug it around town in higher gears and still have grunt.

This engine is like the earlier M5s--all top-end happiness. Unfortunately, that high revving stuff costs BIG BUX with today's fuel prices and isn't very convenient in American traffic, and beside, who wants to scream around town in second gear?

I have to say that I am surprised, as I thought the 550 had picked up some more low-end grunt. Between this need to stay in lower gears at higher RPMs, and the cramped footwell (my clutch foot hits the dead pedal 50% of the time) I have changed my opinion of the high-end Fives dramatically--and not for the better.

Cheers,
Ray Hull
