I have been noticing a problem with my E60 when it is windy outside.
The car seems to react to sidewinds in a way that I do not like!
I drove a couple of weeks ago on a icy freeway cruising at about 120 km/h (75 mph)
and the wind took the car in a side slide a lot of times, scarey I can tell!
But I have also felt the same feature in the summertime, but then the car doesn't slide,
it only needs some steering but anyway...

Ya the E60 doesnt take side winds too well... Others take side winds a lot better!
Depends what you mean "normal" I dont think the amount of wind movement is "normal" in the E60.

I wonder how would you expect this to be prevented in design?
It's normal IMHO... Unless they'll start to make lateral wind-tunnel tests...![Wink](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/wink.gif)

Kidding aside, you were on an icy freeway, so you will expect to slide, wind or not. Wind will just make it easier for the car to slide.
It's got nothing to do with BMW.

Sorry the say but, this has everything to do with the designing of the car.
BMW has not made enough windtunnel testing or then the shape has gone
in front of the user safty!
It might be that the car is be stable in windy conditions at higher speeds
(above 110 mph / 180 km/h) but the fact is that it isn't under 75 mph / 120km/h!
EBMCS03 seems to know his car, let's wait for more Specialist comments...

After just experiencing some crazy Santa Ana winds this week, I can attest to cross wind pushing...but I don't think its any better in simular size cars and defineatly more noticeable in my wife's SUV. I suspect those large side pannels on the e60 attribute to the wind sheer affect.

I noticed that first time after few hundred kilometers when I passed a truck in the side wind conditions. It was a bit scary because first I thought that something went broken (like tyre!) No I notice it only when it?s really gusty wind conditions.

Feels like your pulling a trailer that's rear end heavy, kind of the tail wagging the dog! Very unsetteling at times.

Only 2 days with my E60 and I have noticed the side wind effects already. When coming from a road section in the woods to an open field the effect can be fairly strong. This is so far the only thing where my E60 is clearly worse than my previous car Volvo S60 AWD, which was practically immune to any side wind effects.

Hi Rr:
No ice for me, of course, but I have driven in some wind. My car reacted normally as best I could tell.
