I live in the US. My 08' 535xi with the iPod/USB option can't display any of the Chinese characters on my iDrive and it's frustrating. I'm trying to see if anyone can help me see the chinese song titles on my idrive. Seems like the US cars are loaded with different software or even hardware than those in China. It doesn't even bother to show them as blank boxes or funny characters so that I have some way of guessing.

Anyway, i'm trying to get as much technical information on Chinese iDrive on the E60 as I can so:
1. I can determine if it's technically possible for me to load that software on my US E60
2. If so, I think all the US owners who wants to read chinese on their iDrive should send a letter to BMWNA to request them to fix it.

so friends from the Mainland China please help. Friends from Taiwan if you can read Simplified Chinese on your screen please also help.

there is no Chinese language setting on your iDrive?
I think there is such setting on the iDrives in HK. I will check when i return on saturday.
But I do not have the ipod connection on my car so not sure if it will display chinese characters even if iDrive can support chinese.

No. There is no Chinese language setting on my iDrive. I think it only has spanish and french besides english.

based on my research, seems like the idrive in china's E60 doesn't yet have ipod option. however, they do have bluetooth option which will read the address book from a capable phone. if so, i can't imagine that it doesn't support chinese character and be useful in china. i guess the key information here is what kind of OS is the iDrive in china or HK's E60 based on. And if anyone is technical enough, maybe some information on the CPU can also be helpful. if the CPU is different then I guess i can just give up on it.

another crazy idea is to load chinese fonts on the idrive i have. anyone has any idea on how that may be accomplished?

interesting, seems like mixed answers from HK. eR6c says yes and pinguk says no. ai and eR6c do you know any more detail about your i-drive hardware/os? Thanks.

Ching-HO, since you are in MA I guess you are in the same problem? Any idea or plan to fix it?

I could display both simplified and traditional chinese characters in my idrive before i had the sw updated. After the update, there is only spanish and french besides english. so i don't get to see the song titles in chinese either. but with the sw update, my mp3 was enabled.
