Anyone here blown their throwout bearing before?

Thread title mistakingly says thrust bearing. Meant throwout bearing.

Anyone here with a manual or SMG blown their throwout bearing before? Did you encounter a little chatter or hissing/whirring when depressing the clutch pedal? I have a feeling I might have busted the throwout bearing on the 550i. Hopefully the pressure-plate and clutch is okay. Going to pull the transmission and have a look when I get the time, but wanted to see if anyone had similar experience before.

Not on my BMW. Not sure how much the clutch, plated and bearing all cost, but I think I would be considering replacing all three if I were having to pull the tranny...

Had a throwout bearing wear out in my E30. yes, it rattled a lot unless I had the clutch pedal depressed at idle. if it's still rattling even with the clutch pedal depressed you have a problem.

The Spec Stage3+ clutch is around $1250 if i remember correctly. Pulling the transmission isn't a big deal, so I don't mind pulling it out to replace the clutch when it needs replacing. The Spec clutch and Dinan flywheel only have like 700-800 miles on them anyways..

Yeah. Seen different symptoms for broken throwout bearings. *Usually* they only make noise when the pedal is pushed down, but not always. This is because a broken throwout will often not push the pressure plate fingers down far enough to fully disengage the clutch, so you get some chatter or the clutch won't free up at all.

Ended up pulling the transmission and took a video. Here is what I found:

Yes. After you do it once, you just want to keep doing it again!! :P

Yes. If we could find a way to harness the experience in the form of a human-injestible substance we might be on to something! :p
