Anyone else notice they changed the PDC sensors a little bit?

I saw a new E60 on display recently and did a double-take when I saw the PDC sensors in the bumper.
It looks like BMW made a slight change to them. Not sure which version is better looking -- I suppose it's not that much of a difference but hey, I'm running out of things to talk about...
(Please excuse the crappy cell phone pics but that's all I had on me.)

The second one looks like it's a lot easier to remove wax residue.

It would be nice if they could make the whole bumper a transducer and eliminate any kind of hole in the bumper. Certainly a better design than the old ones.

Yeah, it makes you question why so many concentric circles were used in the past...

Because PDC was an afterthought. Put a transducer in a housing then make a holder to hold the housing in the bumper...logical but not aesthetically pleasing.
I assumed the technology has simply been improved/refined and they were able to figure out how to make them without all the extra crap.

You sure? I think I remember seeing a PDC unit removed from a bumper and all the concentric stuff was part of the PDC itself, not any mounting bracket or holder...

Hmm...I am sure I saw a bumper with PDC that had a bracket attached (accounting for two of the concentric circles) then I assumed the sensor itself clipped in having one last circle on the face of it.
