I cannot get the stereo power button <-> eject button combination to reboot my iDrive. What I really want is a way to 'start over', lose all my settings and reprogram everything. Is this possible? Do I have to disconnect the battery?

Any other ideas? Also, why doesn't my radio power button/eject button combo reboot my MY2005 530i (no Nav, no changer). Are there other combinations?

Thanks for all your help guys!

The reboot only works on nav cars. It's BOTH eject buttons plus the mute button at a time.

So its not possible to reboot a non-Nav car?

What about a complete erase?

There is a menu option to "Reset data" or "Delete Data" can't remeber what it's called. I think it is under the information menu(Idrive knob striaght depressed from main nenu).

Sounds like a good idea, albeit scary. I guess it will wipe everything out!

You can always just wait until your next software upgrade -- that usually starts you over with personal settings...

That's not a bad idea either. I am going in for the MP3 software upgrade for non-Navs soon, I hope.

that button only resets your "customization of buttons, fm stations, address book in nav(if you have it)" ... its NOT like reformation your computer & wiping everything ... but then again .. not like you have any way to add accessories (software) to your idrive to mess it up anyway.

not sure what RESETing the idrive would do to improve your situtation ... whatever it may be. if your idrive is slow, crashes, weird things happen then i doubt that reseting would help. ... but give it a try & post up if it improved.

rudy,

from the original version to 13.3, it erased everything, however when upgrading to v.15, it did not erase anything .. i was actually expecting it to be gone, and had manually written down all my contacts in my address book. wondere if tomorrows upgrade will erase the data again. i will post up, probably not till friday though(dealer wants to keep the car for 3-4 days)
