They work fine in California.
Try polishing your glass with Gel-gloss. You may not even have to use your wipers.

Not very happy with the auto wipers either. I find them too sensitive as they wipe at any inkling of mist, but when it starts to rain rather hard, they don't wipe fast enough.

This is the first time that I had auto wipers in a car and at first, I loved them.? But lately, they just never seem fast enough.?

Generally, I hate the distraction of wipers and usually put them on at the last possible moment and at the slowest possible speed.? When I first got my 5er in May, I set the auto setting to the slowest speed and they worked great.? I loved them.? But now, I've had to move the setting all the way to the fastest speed and they never to be on enough.? For example, two days ago in a driving rain storm here in Boston, the wipers stayed in the intermittant mode and never swithched even to the regular slow sweep mode.? Anyone else experience this problem?

How odd. I was just thinking about this today. I'm having the same problem.

Sometimes I turn the dial to the opposite end for a few seconds then back and that seems to fix it for a little while. That could be in my head though. It's so slow at this point I can't remember which end is for fast and which for slow.

Peace.

Well, I can't say mine are giving me any problems. I pretty much only use the rain-sensor setting and vary the sensitivity as needed. No deterioration of performance after 9000+ miles.

I will say, however, that the E39 rain-sensor worked a little better. On the E60, the lowest setting doesn't seem to respond well so you always have to bump it up one notch. In the E39, the operation and sensitivity adjustment was perfect and precise.

One more thing, I've used the rain sensing wipers on a 2000 MB S-class and a 2003 S-class. The 2000 had a mind of it's own and was pretty much worthless. The 2003, while slightly improved, does not give you any adjustment over the sensitivity and the factory program isn't sensitive enough so it's essentially worthless too!

Ditto, constantly playing with the control auto/man adjusting sensitivity/speed. This is a relatively recent problem and my idrive has been reprogrammed twice in the last 2 months (after owning it for 1 year).

Is this an programming update issue? All my problems to date were.

Maybe it's time to start gathering statistics on what software version people have that are experiencing problems with the rain sensor.

It could very well be something that was "broken" with a recent software update.

I'm on version 12.2 with no noticeable wiper issues...

I have 13.2 and no problems.

Make sure you have not mounted your Easy Pass (automatic toll paying device) or anything else in front of the sensors, as this will interfere with performance.

Unless you're mounting your EZ-Pass on the outside of the windshield, you're not going to be covering any sensors...
