This is the first time that I had auto wipers in a car and at first, I loved them. But lately, they just never seem fast enough.

Generally, I hate the distraction of wipers and usually put them on at the last possible moment and at the slowest possible speed. When I first got my 5er in May, I set the auto setting to the slowest speed and they worked great. I loved them. But now, I've had to move the setting all the way to the fastest speed and they never to be on enough. For example, two days ago in a driving rain storm here in Boston, the wipers stayed in the intermittant mode and never swithched even to the regular slow sweep mode. Anyone else experience this problem?

my wipers have worked just fine until the last 500 miles. i have 10k on it now...so i guess a wiper replacement is do. the make alot of noise especially in cold weather.

there seems to be a wax build up on the windshield.

Just don't ever use Rain-X.

That stuff eventually dries out and gets tacky. It makes wiper blades stick and chatter on the glass. It is difficult to remove, as well.

Actually, I have had to override the automatic and just put them on the manual, always-on slow setting in some rains storms, too. Sometimes they're great, others annoying.

What the stupid is that you laways have to put automatic wipers on...
Before i don't was so by bmw.By my other car an x-type you can always stand it on but you can set it off to the best sytem i think !

I recall reading something about colder temperatures affecting the performance of the automatic wipers in my previous car's manual (not a BMW). Apparently, this affected the sensors in some way so that they were not as responsive. I beleive I noticed this and I felt that the cold weather performance improved once the windshield warmed up.

Interesting, seems the same case with me.I bought the car one year ago. There
was no problem during last winter. Just looks like slowly deteriorating performance.

I tend to fight them quite often and am only about 50% happy with this option. I generally like the auto function and sometimes they work perfectly but sometimes they are either too fast or too slow for my liking and the adjustment seems to do very little. I wish there was a an infinitely adjustable delay feature as well as the auto.

I agree with DXXi. Most of the time they work great but sometimes I need to help them manually..
