I have followed the instructions from the book and from the websites and it's still not working. It is an alternating code opener and I am about to alternate it's life span.

mods, feel free to delete this thread. I just got it.

Really quite simple. Do as the manual states and all will be fine. First you need to make sure the ignition is turned on. (Learned that the hard way) Hold the outer two buttons (1 & 3) at the same time for 20-30 seconds to clear. The LED will either come on or start blinking to let you know that it is cleared. Then just hold down the button you want to teach while holding down the garage door opener. When it is successful, it will blink the LED to confirm. One issue I had was the placement of the original factory garage door opener. Holding it directly underneath the buttons didn't work for me. Finally got it to take by holding the opener in front of the rear view mirror, between the mirror and the windshield. Worked first time after moving the position.

Once the homelink is programmed, you need to push the learn button on the overhear motor itself. Should be a red button. This puts it in learn mode. Quickly after pushing the learn, hit the button on the mirror that you taught. THe light on the overhead motor should blink confirming the process.
