My Ride: 2005 Titanium Gray 545 Sport Package
Default

Great day today, despite being told by two coworkers that my tire was flat, come outside after work and see that it is REALLY flat. I drive it around the corner into town, probably about 2 miles and pump it up. I then drive it over to a tire shop to get the brand new tires with less than 5K miles on them patched up, after spending about an hour and a half the guys let me know that I have a cracked rim. NICE. This now makes two different cracked rims in less than 6 months, I think I am now going to look at getting some aftermarket rims. The guys who alerted me of the first one as well as this one informed me that the BMW OEM rims are real soft and that it is pretty common out here in VA. I found some rims I wanted a while back but was informed they don't make the offset for BMW's, can anyone point me in the direction of some good high quality rims, I am not really interested in iForged though, I like the mesh look also, like the ones pictured here:

I am really thinking of just buying another OEM rim, and putting the car in the garage until the spring and pick up a STi for the winter. If the wheels are this soft on our roads imagine what will happen with ice, sleet, and snow. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think a wheel might be cheaper than an STi Seriously you might've just have some bad luck. The OEMs are made by BBS and you can't get much stronger or better quality than that.

Hi

Have you looked into DPE wheels? I actually have a set in inventory.

Oh no I agree with you, but I was looking at getting a car that can handle the snow, as well as something that I can use as a daily driver, and stop putting so many miles on my 5. I think the BBS technician who made my wheels must of went on a coffee break, because they are not as strong as I thought BBS wheels were.

Wow that sucks, but I would fix it personally.
Because the fact that "I" cracked/bent and know the conditions of those cracked/bent, I can safely judge if it's fixable and not put myself in danger of fixing something that shouldn't be fixed.

Also, a reputable shop can fix like a magic. I also had a bent and a cracked one one same wheel over the years and I fixed both of them and the wheel is just as strong and true/straight!!

Good luck.

I have the rims on there now, because it is a very small crack. The tech took like 20 - 30 minutes trying to find it, spraying the whole wheel piece by piece, it takes about 10 - 12 hours for the air to deflate the tire from regular PSI.

Michael thanks for the info can you PM me a price for the S10's, S20's, R16's, and R20's 18" and 19". Thank you.
S20's

+1 for wheel and tire insurance if you stay with OEM....if you decide OEM, go with a forged not a cast wheel (like 167's)
