My Ride: 525i w/ Sport Pkg. Black with black Leather. Cold weather pkg. Satellite, xenons. No aftermarket ... yet.

In the U.S., newspaper ads are appearing everywhere, promoting discounts on 525 leases for $469 per month, with $2,495 down. In June '04, I shopped around to find what I believed to be the lowest lease available on my 525 , $670 per month, with no money down. Yes, I have a few extras on it (Sport, xenon, cold weather, 15K mi/yr), but clearly I'm overpaying relative to the new discounts.

As a business person myself, I think I know the answer, but I must ask: is there any recourse available to me? That is, is there some way I can take advantage of these new discounts -- seven months after leasing my car?

Thanks.

Hummm sorry to say but probably not... unless you can find a dealer that can buy you out of your current lease and put you in a new car for cheaper...

Wish things work that way...

At that time you thought it was the best deal for you and was worth it to you given all the variables... so you got it. Enjoy it. Its ok... Economics 101... Se La Vi

Just keep in mind that that $469 does not take into account the extras you would have wanted on the car, nor would it include the taxes and other liscencing and registration fees that would have also been due at purchase.

No. With a lease, you agreed to buy the car at a set price (cap. cost). The attractive deals reflect the pending shift to teh new engines and early MY changeover.

Unfortunately not....it's a contract and from the contract there's no turning back. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Yours sounds well optioned, and those options can really add up...usually around $30/mo for every $1000 spent. There's just no way to recoup other incentives like better residual or money factor.

Is the term of the $469 lease the same as yours? i.e. 3 years or is it longer?

I imagine it is the same deal that is running in the paper for dealers here in central NJ:

P/Winds/Lcks/Mrrs, P/Htd Frt Bkt Sts, Ref Def, Tilt, Cruise, Alloy Whls, Keyless, AM/FM stero w/CD, Premium PKG, MSRP:$46,021 base on a 36 month closed end lease. Total due at inception: &3994 (includes $2500 down payment, ist mo payment, $500 Refundable Security Deposit and $525 Bank fee) Total lease payments $16,844+tax. 10,000mi/yr excess mi@$.20 thereafter. Residual $28,992

That's the offer for a $469 lease advertised (notice the "+tax" and no other fees)

In addition to the "+ taxes" in the 469 deal, it is only for 10,000 mile/year, whereas, you have 15,000 miles/year -- that adds about $50/month to the payment. Therefore, you are not doing too badly with your lease, maybe overpaying by about $20-30/month, but then at this time the deals are there for a model/engine changeover and when you got yours it was probably among very few cars of its kind on the road.

Enjoy the vehicle (and forget about buyer's remorse -- if that is in fact what is bothering you). You still have a pretty good deal.

Thanks guys, this helped take some of the sting out of the state of affairs.

Although, I still don't relish the perception of the e60 as a discounted vehicle. I understand the need for marketshare, but would have liked BMW to resist the temptation a year or two longer. Discounting a year-old MY is for VW, Toyota and U.S. vehicles ... not the vaunted 5-series line.

Just my two cents (oops, 1.665 cents).
