I actually stuck with 245s on the stock 18s, but the 255s should suit you fine.

wronge biger rim is much easy to srach and smaller rim is harder.
bad driver needs smaller rims
I think you are thing of thr tyre not the rim.
I don`t think 20" with 275/30/20 low profile is going to be better protection
