Is the ticking more pronounced when the engine is cold and then subsides as the engine warms up?

I'm having my engine checked out tomorrow by a FSE....

PS. This particular problem has nothing to do with low oil, pinging, vavletronic levers.

Now you guys got me paranoid i hear a ticking sound on the driver side of the engine today when i dropped the car for the CIP upgrade I wasked my shop foreman and he said that is normal and osund like the injectors, normal. He also pointed out that could be the low oil in my car as I have 6k miles and the Idrive shows I only have 1/2 the engine oil .. so they will check on it as the 3 and 5 series are misteriously consuming oil (his comments)

How loud is it? Faint, Soft, Regular (* Like normal human voice talking loud *), Loud, or Excessively loud?

I hear it on the right side of mine too (Drivers Side Bank) and I would describe it as Soft.

I just got my car back from the the dealer(vavle levers replaced).Cold starts are much better now,but the engine clatter hasn't gone away.I'm pretty sure it's coming from the passanger side.

My Mightmare is gone - hopefully forever.
Glad this all worked out for you.
But now you have to go through another break-in period! :'(

I recently noticed that my 09/2004 build 545 has a slight ticking sound just after starting but only while cold. It goes away once the white tach limit warning bug moves to normal. It sounds like a single valve/lifter is little loose or sloppy. When the engine is warm, it is perfectly quiet.

Normal? Related? Something to worry about?
