So some of you may have seen my threads about new tires and getting rid of run flats etc... Well I got my Conti Extreme Contact DWS's and was just informed by BMW that my rear right rim is cracked... wtf!?!?! I have read many accounts of 124's cracking. I wish BMW would do something about this problem... they quoted me $400+... an expense I didnt see coming on top of the tire expense.

For the record I will have two 245/40/18 - Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST RunOnFlat (fronts)... One is brand new and the other has about 1,000 miles.... PM me if interested.

Sorry to hear bro! I have had 3 repaired already. One was repaired twice! Can't wait for spring to get out of these wheels. I have never had a cracked wheel in any of my other cars.

I just found out my 124 rears (fronts are perfect) were bent. They ride fine and no TPMS warnings though. Mike - who repaired yours?

yes, 124s suck big time. I had my both rears repaired, yesterday I got TPMS warning... I assume it will be another crack. BTW, only rear ones crack, front ones are OK... go figure. I wish BMW would replace rear ones, at least under warranty...

Whats the repair cost? I am assuming if the crack is in a specific place or too big they wouldnt do it? BWM didnt even give me the option of repair, but then again why would they?!

Has anyone written to BMWNA about the 124's??? Is there a place to email? Maybe they just need to get inundated with emails from all of us irate 124 owners about the money we have spent replacing these things... its obviously a design flaw.

a local weld shop welded my cracked rims for 50 each. i had to take the wheels to the tire shop and have them dismounted and remounted though.

call up some local tire shops and see if they can recommend any local welders.

I am just going to have it replaced... I will chalk it up to the maintenance cost of having a 545i! ugh.... I cant wait to pick it up next week and see how the new Conti Extreme Contact DWS's feel.

Here's my opinion ... for what it's worth!

Unless you're driving in mine-fields the wheel cracks I've been reading about are common to a specific wheel design and there seems to be a preponderance of incidences where RFTs are fitted to the wheels.

However, posts on a forum don't = "data". And, it's unlikely that BMW will go out of its way to collect and report data to the various regulatory agencies whether in the United States, Germany (where the agencies seen to have more power), or other countries.

If you feel the wheel and tire combination on your car failed under "normal" use ,and you're in the United States, I recommend you file a report with the NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

If you are located elsewhere (e.g. TUV regs apply) perhaps there is a similar ability to report these issues.

There is never a guarantee it will help while letting off steam on this or any other forum forum helps, it won't get a flaw corrected --- again, in my opinion .... not humble either
