So, I've sort of resigned myself to the fact that the "ding" at startup will never be something I can get rid of.
From my experience, there are two reasons for "dings" at startup. First is putting the key in before the door is closed. The second is not buckling-up before turning the key. So, in my experience, you can avoid all "dings" at startup by taking the time to close the door and buckling-up before inserting and turning the key.

Well, that's not true in my case. Even if I make sure the door is shut, buckle up, then count to 10-Mississippi before starting the car, the ding still happens as it waits for me to accept the warning on the I-drive screen. Thanks for the thought, though.

Exactly.

I've never had this "alram" on my car so I can only assume that it's some kind of US Lawyer Alarm..

ABC
+1

Having the car chime at me and present legal disclaimers via the central display every time I used it would drive me nuts!

On my LCI it's the same, nothing to do with US cars

Maybe all LCI cars have it now - any UK owners with LCI cars that chime at them?

That must a new software "feature" that I do not have and hope any updates I receive in the future do not add to my car. I must admit I really dislike "dings" during startup. After closing the door and buckling-up, I usually turn the key one click and wait for iDrive to boot up (no dings), then accept the "lawyer" screen. Then I make one more click and review the service information display and check the warning lights before finally engaging the starter. I got in the habit of waiting before starting with my Ford Powerstroke diesel (Wait To Start light), so I am used to taking time starting up.
