Nope it is not made up... they are in fact called angel eyes by the BMW community.

Now if I said the LCI rear is called devil eyes would you believe me?

Yep!

Also, I'm pretty sure if you go to the stealership service department they would refer to them as angel eyes as well. The only other way to describe them would be "Round Circly Lights around the Low-Beam and High-Beam Areas"

I believe the official term is "corona rings", but I've never heard anything other than Angle Eyes by my dealer, or anyone I talked with about them. I, too, would like to know who coined the phrase.

The new BMW brochures for the GT and F10 5-Series sedan refer to the white LED Corona Rings
Reminds me of Coca-Cola in the 1960s who actually ran advertising asking people not to refer to the brand as 'Coke'.

BMW should make the user-generated vocabulary (Angel Eyes) their own - it is one of the most distinguishing marks of the model - so much so that the January issue of CAR magazine UK reports that the new M5 is going to have different daylight running lights than the stock 5-Series 'Angel Eyes'.

Sorry rambled a bit there

Happy Holidays Friends!
