I'm one of the victims i suppose for not replacing trans and differential oil on time.

After some slamming and slipping i decided to stop listening the ''lifetime craps'' of bmw and changed the trans oil at 130000km done. I didn't do the same on the differential though. the slam continued and now 175000km after it seems i have caused a damage somewhere maybe on the torque converter or on the differential or in the auto itshelf. i'm planning to change the differential oil in order to see a different behaviour. i have an e60 520diesel 2006 model. what oil should i use? i have checked on the castrol 75w-90 and redline 75w-90. How will i know if my differential is limited slip or non so to buy the appropriate oil? thanks in advance.

thanks for the info. my differential has one plug only so i guess i have to suck the oil with a pump and place the new fluid on the same way:

the only problem is now which oil to use.. limited slip or non limited slip? i have found that redline 75w-90 comes also in 75w-90ns (which means non slip i suppose).

i thought that only the m5 had a limited slip diff. i think its ok to use either oil in a non-limited slip diff, but when you do have a limited slip diff, you want the right oil.

Has anybody tried this oil:
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-736-cast...lubricant.aspx
because the recomondations for my car end up to that product.

that oil weight is for an m5.

75w-90 is used in all 5 series except the m5, which uses 75w-140.

before you go crazy changing fluids, have you checked out the flex joint on the driveshaft? It was called the guibo in the older cars. Failure symptoms are what you describe and you have enough mileage to replace it by now.

Just because i don't know if my differential is limited slip or not i am thinking of changing the oil with the 75w-140 one just in case. I hope i don't damage anything else.

#2 in that diagram. BTW, no E60 has a limited slip unless it's an M5.
