Alarm System Malfunction?

My Ride: 2003 330i

Today, when I unlocked my car, I got 4 BEEPS instead of just 2. And When I locked it again I got 2 instead of 1. What does that mean? I tried to RTFM but couldn't find anything.

Does it always happen or did it just happen that one time?

If it only happened once, chalk it up to one of the many little things that makes us love our cars so much...
