While Microfilter change is indicated on iDrive, air filter change is no where indicated on iDrive.

I checked my air filter at 18k miles and it's already very dirty. It probably due to San Diego I-15 constructions where I commute every day.

I changed it anyway but I do wonder why air filter is not monitored like microfilter.

Micro filter is for cabin air / HVAC; Engine air filter change is on a mileage/time schedule. Under the earlier model maintenance it was part of "Inspection II" service. Check your maintenance book - mine is in the car and it's too late to go out and check it.

As per BMW, the air filter is changed along with the oil change (whenever that would be indicated as per idrive)

I haven't looked at mine yet, so help me out: I'm assuming the air intake box is under the hood like with most other cars, how do I open it, are there just clips that have to be removed like most other cars, or do I need tools to open it?

Thanks

I have an 06' 530, and I want to change my air filter too, when you changed yours, did you unplug the cable that is connected to the filter housing box, and if so, when you re-connected it, did you have any problems, ie. warning indicators etc?

for my car, the air filter ISNT replaced in an oil service.

This might be what BMW refer to as the intake silencer?

In this case, its replaced every 3rd oil or inspection service.

All these things should be in your handbook, supplied with the car
