Hey guys I don't usually post here.. but I have to give you guys my experiences...
Basically the smell you guys encounter is the growth of mildue inside your AC system. So, 1 you should always turn off A/C at least 3-4 minutes before you turn off the car (while driving). This allows the A/C component to return to normal outside temperature and prevents mildue from building up.
Also NEVER use the A/C while you have the inside temperature higher than 65. This will also cause the grown of mildue.
My mom experienced the smell on her X5, and Stevens Creek changed the parts free of charge. They did not mention anything about the next time and I didn't ask. The service manager suggested to always run on recirculated air when you use the A/C because it keeps a lot of stress on the system and also could prevent the smell from happening... (I don't see how, but o.k.) Logically that would save a few horses, because the car doesn't have to constantly convert hot air from outside into cold air, instead it just has to make cold air colder...
