Unhappy

Anyone have this happen.

Today took a 2 hour ride and had A/c set to 68. It started to get warm in the car. I felt the air and it felt warm. I turned the A/C off for a couple of minutes and then put it back on , for a short while it was cold then I had to do the on/off routine until I got home.

I think you may be low on refrigerant or something.

I've seen this problem on other cars but not my E60. I'm betting you either have a leak or the system was not properly charged at the factory.

Yep, sounds as though it needs re-gassing and the seals checking. It may not be covered specifically by warranty, but as the car is so new I'd expect they will do it for you under goodwill.

That would clearly be covered under warranty here in the US -- I'll bet you'll be taken care of Tsandas.

I'd think that the only way it wouldn't be covered is if you had visible damage to the system -- like an accident or something that caused a leak, etc.

Good luck. I hope I'm right!!

Mine is working just fine but it happened to me one day when i started the car the AC wasn't working at all.
The button was on but no air, no sound of the compressor, no nothing.
I switched off the car and then 10 minutes later started it again and the AC was working.
Does anyone had this experience ?

Haven't seen that with my E60 but there are pressure cut-offs (I think both for low and high pressure conditions). I just drove about 5 hours from Pittsburgh to Indianapolis in 94 degree (Fahrenheit) temps with extremely high humidity. The A/C worked fine except I had to adjust it a bit to compensate for when the sun was hitting me through the side windows.

It could've been that your compressor cut-off due to some issue with pressure and that's why it came back after 10 minutes or so.

Under normal circumstances, these things shouldn't happen. You might see this happen from time-to-time and not think anything of it but it usually means there's something not exactly right with the system. Too little or too much refrigerant maybe? A small leak in the system? (I'm not an expert with A/C but I know a few guys that are and I've heard them say these kinds of things before...)

I hope everything stays "cool" with your car and it never happens again!
