Not the muffler bearing. I am certain it is the krammerstant. Not cheap.

He playing with you!

It would take extreme heat or flame to cause that melting.

I've only had anything like that happen ... once when a carburetored engine backfired and caught the air filter on fire. Probably nearly impossible with one of our cars.

could be like the coolant resevoir over flowing and spilled hot coolant on it... I dunno where the resevoir is so ???

EDIT: NVM I looked at the pic and can see where the resevoir is...lol

Yes coolant is on the other side. It could be something about cooling though because coolant was extremely hot so was the engine

Strange thing happened. The stock Air Box literally melted.

I noticed that the engine was very hot so was the coolant. The Air Box probably doesn't get the cool air into the engine.

I have no clue what could it be and anxious to take it to the shop on Monday. Luckily I have warranty.

Few things crossed my mind : i recently adjusted climate control settings in idrive to heat (red). Also, few month ago I removed charcoal filter from the Air Box. And, right before i found this happening, my wife drove the car (may be she drove in a low gear od with the brake on i don't know)

Did anything like this happened to anyone? What could it be?

This is the picture of Air Box:
well, you should've said that first

WoW this is creepy though. Maybe its BMW's way of saying "put a deposit on an F10 now"?

Do you have an aftermarket air filter? If yes, which one? Keep us posted on what the shop tells you and be careful with that thing.

I seriously doubt that it could've been caused by removal of the charcoal filter. My money's on some fluid spilling over on the airbox - maybe its one of the lines behind/under the airbox
