What year is your car? If its still under warranty, you might want to take it to the dealer for a quick check.

True, because wasn't there a service bulletin recently for the airbag in some 04-06 models?

Yep, thats what I'm getting at.
This happened to me...my car is a 2004 530i and there was an open campaign on it for a sensor in the seat pad of the passenger side. The dealership fixed it for free and fixed the sensor (that is in the seat belt clip) and was setting off the air bag light and seat belt light along with it.
Call your dealership give them your VIN and see if you have any open campaigns...if so get them fixed and hopefully they'll fix that sensor at the same time...
BTW my warranty is over and they did this for free

That is usually the good news, typically even if you are out of warranty the dealer has to honor service bulletins and recalls regardless - make them check it.

Go to another dealer and have them check for service bulletins BEFORE they make you pay to have them "check it out"

ok will give that a go... but 1st iam a bit stupid but what do you mean by service bulletins?
They are released from BMW to inform dealers of possible manufacturing defects that can cause issues, I know there is a thread here (just can't find it) that BMW NA sent out (several members here got letters telling them to take their car in to get fixed). I don't know if they issued one for the UK, but maybe someone can help out finding the BMW NA one, Gene?
