Default Age old question of TTY bolt reuse for turbo and oil pan job

I'm in the process of having my wastegates fixed ('09 535xi) and also decided to do the oil pan gasket and motor mounts at the same time. Needless to say, I've got a ton of parts on the floor in my garage including many aluminum bolts. The turbo install kit I got from ECS came with all new manifold bolts and water pump bolts (not sure why since I didn't need to remove water pump once sub frame was off. Here's the thing, I gave an extensive list of fasteners to my local dealership to see what it was cost and was blown away that they want $700 for nuts and bolts!!! What would be you're recommendations? I did do new bolts on the oil pan since that came in a nice set. The other bolts are things like:
  • Power steering pump (will do)
  • Motor mount nut and bolts (and bolts that hold mount to subframe)
  • Bolts that hold front diff and axle carrier to oil pan
  • Subframe mount bolts
  • Steering rack bolts and nuts
  • Banjo bolts for steering rack
  • Pinch bolt for steering shaft to rack
  • Bolts for control arms to subframe
  • Sway bar end link nuts
  • Bell housing bolts that hold catalytic converter bracket
  • Bell housing bolts that go into oil pan
  • Reinforcement plate bolts
  • Bolts for tie rods connecting to hubs

Anyway, what are your thoughts? That seems utterly crazy to spend that much for bolts. I'm spending that much to have a shop repair the wastegates.

Interestingly, as I look at newtis I am surprised that a number of these bolts don't have a TTY value, just a regular Nm value. For example, the bolts that hold the transmission bell housing to the engine block only list a torque value and no notes to replace: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...ousing/5xXhPe8

Does that seem odd?

Ok, maybe I'm just not as observant as I thought. Took a magnet out there and a lot of the bolts that I thought were aluminum are magnetic. So I'll just replace the ones TIS says to replace.

There's a lot of controversy on this topic, mostly related to any bolt that has a ft-lb plus an angle spec, or aluminium bolts. I'm all over the map personally, but any bolt that's a PITA to access will get replaced (valve cover bolts on an N52 for instance). Or any that is really 'safety critical' such as suspension mountings. That said, Bentley says change brake caliper bracket bolts, caliper guide pins and a plethora of others that I habitually re-use (surprised wheel bolts somehow escape this binge). I've re-used subframe plate bolts and the like.

Not very helpful, eh?
