Hell all,
Got my sub 12" W6 JL install on the custom fit sealed box for my 535i (e60). everything good, sound good to but I am little concern about the air ventilation for the sub woofer since the BMW closed the trunk very seal. I am afraid the vent air may goes thru. the two 4" speakers on the deck and may damage those speakers in the long run.
Should I cut two of 2" holes on the deck for the sub ventilation or really no need ? Any suggestion ?

I have a small 10" in my trunk and I've done nothing but sit it inside and started using it. No additional holes etc.. I love it! It has made such an improvement in the sound and it only has a small alpine amp. Plenty enough bass for me and clearly a lot more than stock.

what I afraid is the splash back air thru the original 4" speakers when the sub beat hard and it may cause damage the 4" speakers on the deck. Since the trunk sealed, the vent air have to go some where right?

there isn't nearly enough pressure generated by the 12w6 to damage the 4" speakers. the strength in the 4" speakers motor assembly far outweighs the added pressure from the 12w6.
I've done alot with SPL over the years, inlcuding qualifying for and competing in the DB Drag Racing World Finals. My area of specialty was in "steet" vehicles, too.

Aren't the speakers covered by the deck? if i remember correctly mine are. Anyway you can take a hole saw or jigsaw and cut a port where the ski hatch would be if you don't have it. I did that when i had a sub. Definitely changed the sound of the sub
