what is adaptive lighting. Saw this on sticker of 2008 535i today

I believe that Adaptive Lighting is the system which swings the headlights into the turns as you drive. The amount of swing depends on wheel angle, yaw and perhaps some other factors.

Does BMW also use the term "Adaptive Lighting" to include the self leveling feature, i.e., when you have a load in the rear it lowers the headlights so as to not blind oncoming drivers?

I don't think leveling is a part of the adaptive lighting feature on BMW cars. Here is a short explaination:
