Hello All:

My 2004 545i has Adaptive headlights. I see that the lights follow the travelled path of my vehicle when set to auto. My question is, does my car have auto-levelling lights? How can I tell if I do. My friends car (530i) auto levels the Xenons when he turns his lights on. I can't say I ever saw this in my car. Maybe I wasn't paying attention? I have Bi-Xenons and the lights do move side to side, should they auto level or is this another option?

Thank You,
Mike

They should also shift from down to up position when you first start your car.

That's what I though. Thank you. So if you have Adaptive Headlights, you have auto levelling?

Make sure you have an object in front of your car (wall, car, etc.) at night turn the lights on and the lights will move from down position to up position then back down halfway (auto leveling).

At least this is what my car does.

Thank you for the replies guys. I will check tonight. I am assuming the lights should be in the Auto Mode correct?

Not necessarily. It can be in any mode as long as you just turn on the light. I have it on auto mode and at night when I get in the car for the first time and the lights come on it auto levels.

No it isn't. They move down then back up.

OP, make sure when you do the test, you have the car in RUN mode (all accessories powered) or start the car; otherwise if you just turn on the lights, they aren't going to move.

If I recall correctly, your Xenons will auto-level regardless of whether they are in "auto" mode or not. The "auto" mode triggers the adaptive functionality and the light-sensitive on-off operation of the lights, if you have these options.

On a side note, what does the headlight line portrayed out in front look like on your cars? Mine seem like they may need aligning. Both appear to have a crooked line that is lower on the left and higher on the right. Maybe lower on left, so I don't blind oncoming traffic or the car in front of me, but higher to the right (this may be reversed for Euro cars). At a minimum it seems like the crooked lines should be sync'd up.

TIA
