Greetings everyone; today I received a message from my dealer, informing me, of a recall on my (Active Steering Unit) 525i w/sports pkg.

My car was built, production week 10, rolled off the assembly line on, 2 March 04.

They told me the sensors for the Active Steering (under both the driver and passenger seats) could be defective.

I am scheduled for an appoint Monday, to have the units checked/repaired.

I cannot explain what they meant by (under the seat), for Active Steering sensors, it makes no sense to me either.

The message came just yesterday from Munich, (mind you) USA dealers may not be up to speed as of yet.

I have a March 12 start, March 18 finished build date. I have heard that they have made a number of changes along the way to resolve issues. I guess it comes with the territory when you get a new model. My early 1997 528ia had a number of problems (moon roof, water pump, steering rack, seat position unit, windows) while my 2002 525ia has only seen the dealer twice in two years for scheduled service. I still want the new body style, mine is due mid April.

I had week 7 production and my car has not been delivered yet. It should be crossing the Atlantic now. Guess the dealer would take care of these things before it's delivered? During that 2 day dealer prep period?

are you sure he's not talking about the Airbag Sensors under the seats?

I am 100% sure, I called another dealer, gave them my VIN#, and he told me the same thing, it had to do with the active steering.

As I said when they told me it was under the driver and passenger seats, I did not ask if they meant inside or outside the car. That?s a little bit out of my lane.

Are there a problems with the airbag, as well?

If so, please let us know.
