I'm getting a whining noise from my steering when parking. Anyone else having the problem? It only happens occasionally.

yes, I had that noise for some months. Few weeks ago, the warning light in the dashboard lightned up, the i-drive monitor displayed a very warning message and the steering changed a little bit behaviour, getting harder to steer during parking. It all disappeared when I stopped the car and switched off and on again. The following moring I went to the dealer, they connected the car to the diagnostic and told me that there was a defective position sensor in the steering unit. Result, they changed the complete assembly and the steering is working fine, now. No more noises and very crisp response.

I received the same post on another forum. Well, I called the number, and the very nice lady who I spoke with said "we are not set-up to handle this issue", and referred me back to the dealer.

What is the point of my spending time contacting BMWNA Customer Relations if they just tell me to work it out with the dealer? Why the reference number when there is nothing Customer Relations can do to help me? I just don't understand the point of your post.

It's funny, though. BMW seems at least somewhat concerned with its active steering issues, probably because once active steering malfunctions, its a shitwreck waiting to happen. I remember when mine went down at one of the busiest intersections in town, during rush hour. I was not a happy camper.
Luckily, I had already slurped down 4 or 5 Budweisers on my way home from the law office, so I was partially sedated.

Hmmm, maybe it wasn't the active steering, but the inactive steerer?
