My trusting ride has developed a Active Steering malufunction. The active steering is now not working and the turn signals don't auto cancel. Has anyone ever had this problem before or have a good price estimate. I know the answer is go to the dealership, but the message says to adjust my driving habits to conpensate, so I'm viewing it as "I can wait to the next service visit" to address the issue. I'm a little afraid of the potential drain on my bank account.

Have you checked the power steering fluid level?

Would try it, except that does't explain the turn signal not turning off.

When I had the same alert and symptoms with the turn signals and took it in to the dealership they charged around 4000, but mine was under warranty. Sorry for the bad news. The majority was from the steering gears that needed to be replaced. And once that was fixed they flashed the system and everything was back to normal.

i get this kind of error too but i comes and goes away. what happens first are my signals. it wont cancel, right after that it will pop the active steering malfunction. happened twice, same order. turn signals then active steering.
gladly i have a scheduled maintenance then have them checked it (but the errors went away already) and dealer said it was just loose electrical bushings that needs to be replaced. well, since then it never happened again.

Well...I just got gas and the iDrive says everything is fine. It was even harder to turn and now it's fine. Weird.

i just had that problem last week and i took it to the dealership... they said it started because of "lack of voltage for the battery". i gues they just reseted and its been working fine ever since....

Well I hope it's the voltage instead of the $4000 problem. Thanks guys for giving me hope.

I have this problem (active steering malfunction) sometimes, but my iDrive asks to restart the car and active steering resets. I have no problem with turn signals. Does your iDrive suggest restarting the car?
