Over the past 3 months I have received the active steering warning message a number of times. The warning requests restarting the Car. In the past a restart of the car has resolved the warning message.

Today however I was not able to resolve the problem with a restart. I restarted the car about a dozen times no luck. The car is driving okay, and I am hoping if I leave the car off for a couple of hours it will resolve itself.

Has anyone else experienced the problem and what was the resolution?

Any help would be appreciated. I am hoping that I don't need to take the Car into the shop.

530I 05 21,000 miles.

Thanks

I got rid of my 545i because of these AS issues including a steering failure at low speed. I felt that the steering was not reliable and at 75mph I was not willing to take a chance on it going down on me. Isn't it about time that BMW stepped up to the plate and admitted something is wrong with the system and did right for the customer? Why has there been no recall notice in regards to AS. Something is clearly amiss here.

I would occasionally get an Active Steering Fault message when I started the car, but it has gone away since one of the CIP/PROGMAN updates. Haven't had one in probably a year.

Thanks for the response.

I guess I should take it into the shop then. Just went out and tested again, still get the message. I have no way to move through the IDRIVE menu system, as the warning is displayed and I can't get out of it.

At the same time I will probably go ahead and purchase the IPOD kit, which I believe will require a software upgrade. Not sure what version I am running today.

I have had these issues with both my 2004 and 2008. The latest technology is going to have bugs. If AS fails there still is a direct connect to the wheels.

Well this morning I get in my car and it won't start.

It appears that IDRIVE is down. The tow guy said it was because the batterry was flat !!! but lights etc are working.

It was towed to the garage and I am waiting to hear from the dealership. I am also going to get the IPOD interface installed while its in.

I will post once I hear from dealership

Okay,

Apparently the Active Steering fluid was LOW.... BS if you ask me. I didn't realize that you had seperate fluid for this, I thought it was all part of the power steering fluid.

Also I had a bad cell in the battery, thats why the car wouldn't start.
