My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Here we go on active steering again. I have had this issue on and off for a couple of years--seems to be cold temperature related. Sometimes shut-off and on of ignition will cure it, but the cure seems more random than that. Thankfully, I have never lost power steering or had notchy steering, however, I do have a new quirk: When the fault is active, my turn signals will not cancel!
Once the fault clears (sometimes with restart, sometimes when instructed to restart, other times whenever it decides to correct itself) my turn signals cancel again. In this cold weather, it seems to be about 15 minutes into my commute (pulling into parking lot at work) when it decides to erupt.
I am really getting fed up with this thing: Two months ago, getting on the Interstate, I got the warning and ignored it, as usual, only to find that I was leaking fluid. I had it towed to the dealer whereupon I was charged $500 for two powersteering hoses (only one failed); thankfully the pump seeems to have survived. However, this fault seems to be getting routine now and I am wondering if the sensor is tired or the pump may be failing. I'm at 45K, but timed out of my warranty. I am going to ask the dealer to submit this as a warranty claim if it needs major surgery; this has gone on too long.
Anyone else loose turn signal cancel?

Hi.
I had identical problem with my car few months ago. Changed battery and its all gone.
Like you told problem appears only in cold climate, same here, exept it?s very cold here in Finland during winter time.
You need visit to the dealer for coding after battery change. System needs to be told it has totally new battery, otherwise the problem won?t disappear.
