After some DIY work today the battery remained dis-connected for nearly 12 hours. When I re-connected everything, the "Active Steering Fault" came up and some window fault. I tried rolling windows up and down and that fault disappeared, and then I went for a spin of about 20Km thinking the active steering fault would dis-appear but it did not.

Any suggestion how to clear the "Active Steering Fault" after battery dis-connection which does not goes away after a ride of 20K's?

Your calibration may need to be reset.

You could try this to

- Start the engine (the "Active Steering inactive" Check-Control message appears).
- Turn the steering wheel first as far as it will go anticlockwise and then as far as it will go clockwise.
- Alternatively the vehicle can be driven at about 30 to 40 km/h.
- Turn off the engine and switch off terminal 15.
- Start the engine. The Active Steering and all its functions is now available.

If that doesn't work you may need to use the DIS program to do the calibration.

I went through the same thing after a recent battery swap. Check the following thread:

Lucky for me, the drive I went to and parked the car in the night. In the morning the message was gone by itself.

Yes you have to let the car sleep first then wake it back up. You probably had an issue with the date/time being set to. Welcome to the E60.

Thanks and I feel over whelmed (welcomee) by my E60 . Strangely, date was kept, but time was not after 12 hours. Is that normal?

If you ever do anything power related just lock the car and let it go to sleep then go back to it.
