If I remeber correctly my dealer quoted me $299 because of active steering. It would be $99 if I didn't have active steering.

Why do you need an alignment? An accident?

No accident, just had the dealer replace the Dunlops and debating if I should get an alignment. The steering seems to be straight and true. Do you guys think I should have the alignment done?

Well... had the same advice..they told me that it was recomended after 30K Km...I said no thank you ! I could drive from coast to coast in a straight line without touching the steering with that car.. . He had that " I had to offer it to you because my boss says so but you are right" kind of look in is face when I refused....Sc..w those money sucking dealers..I will know when I need one

You don't need an alignment if you only changed your tires. You would definitely need one if you lowered your car. Some people also suggest you do one if you upgraded your wheel/tire combo to Plus sizing.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will pass on it for now. Is it true we need to get the cars with active steering aligned at the dealer? Also, what is the recommended mileage to get the alignment done?

Maybe I'm wrong here but I've never heard of any recommended mileage for an alignment. You would only get one if something changes with your suspension geometry such as, again, lowering your car, or hitting something that knocks it out of alignment. My last car was a stock Jetta that I drove for 75K miles and never had to do an alignment.

Agree. I drove my 2002 540i for 40K miles on original Dunlop 2000E tires with no allignment at all.
